Baby you can drive my car
This is a diary entry of the third day of my going door to door. The last entry said I would not forget my pain meds…Ahhhhhh. I did yesterday.
I got an appointment for a hair cut at the Kenwood strip because I promised some darned bone doctor not to drive my car until October 30th. I was probably heavily medicated when I made that promise because that would prevent me from putting up lawnsigns in the far reaches of our 26 mile long city until 4 days before the election. I’ve been working my butt or pelvis off for three days straight to prove I’m worthy. I’ve learned my healing will take a little longer so, Claudia drove me, my flyers and lawnsigns to Kenwood Strip Mall where I would walk back down the hill to home…..I put my 1:00 pills in my pocket and promptly forgot them. My success putting up lawnsigns put he on a high until I hit 19th Ave E. Despite going downhill my legs were knackered. I took off my vest and heard the pills jangling in the bottle.
My mouth was too dry to swallow them. I saw a fellow sitting on his porch and probably made him nervous as I dragged myself in his direction. He kindly brought me a glass of life and I sat on his steps as we had a nice chat. He was a reporter who had seen the Newspaper Business evaporate away from him.
My better half does not want me to drive until I see Ortho. I’m hell bent to drive. While we wrestled over the keys I have plenty of busy streets to canvass before I need a car to reach them. As my easy walk became a trudge and I thought about how I can sweet talk myself behind the wheel I began singing the lyrics to the Beatle song “Baby you can drive my car.” I just hope I can and soon.
On the bright side……..My first ad appeared in the Duluth Reader. I’m pleased with it:
