I was tempted to title this MAGA memories to note the faulty reminescences of Trump followers. What follows is a blanket condemnation on DSA’s or Donald Trump’s bogeyman Democratic Socialists. It was in last weeks Duluth Reader and I print it verbatim with the reply I sent in hoping it would be in next week’s issue:
For those of us who are old enough to remember JFK’s assassination, (November 22nd, 1963) we remember where we were, what we were doing and when it happened. For me, I was in the ninth grade and just finished lunch. I made it to my classroom and the teacher had the radio on and she heard, “The President has died.” Our teacher started to cry and put her head down on her desk.
Now, for the details of 9/11/2001. I was working in the purchasing department at the IBM Rochester, Minnesota, and it was mid-morning when someone was running down the hall saying a plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center’s towers in NYC. No details, but sounded intentional. I had a meeting with an IBM supplier salesman and went down to the lobby to meet him. As we were walking through a conference room, he mentioned that he heard about the plane hitting the tower at the World Trade Center. Without hearing any news reports or details, I said to the salesman, I bet it was Osama bin Laden. After the meeting, I went to a TV which IBM had on every floor of every building and some early reports stated the main suspect was Osama bin Laden.
Now, it was the 25th anniversary on 9/11, 9/11/2026 with many ceremonies recognizing the 2,977 Americans murdered that day. However, in today’s political climate, many DSA candidates in the primaries have claimed America deserved 9/11. How can any true patriotic American can (sic) say that? I feel any political candidate saying those words should be considered a traitor and be deleted from the ballot.

I read last week’s letter from Chuck Bracken with interest. He and I have a few memories in common. Mr. Bracken recalled his 9th grade teacher sobbing on learning of President Kennedy’s murder. My 7th grade English teacher returned to our class ashen faced to tell us that news.
Then, without disclosing a single name of any “democratic socialist” candidate he claimed many of them had blamed the 9-11 terrorist attacks on America. He asked how any patriot could vote for such a candidate.
My wife, who took me to a peace studies class in Israel could only remember one person who had blamed America for 9-11. It was Trump supporter, Pat Robertson.
Reverend Robertson told his vast Praise the Lord TV audience that it was America that caused the attack. God was punishing us because of laws like those that permitted gay people to come out of the closet.
I don’t disagree with Mr. Bracken. Such people are not my kind of patriot.
