Hamilton, two books

I asked to have a short ad placed in this summer’s Readers which will explain that I am on a writing holiday where the Reader is concerned. Last Friday/Saturday I didn’t turn in a column. How much I will write here remains to be seen. I also paused my attempt to write a handout to be passed out door to door.

I have been reading Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton. That’s the 725 page biography (in the hardback edition) that prompted the writing of the hit rap musical of the same name. It was on Broadway when Trump was first elected and the Vice President Pence and his wife went to a performance to take it in. At its end the entire cast paused to ask the Vice President elect And here is where AI is kicking in for me with a very well developed answer that I expected even though November 18 was eight years ago. I am paraphrasing AI, They thanked Pence for coming as he was beginning to leave they hoped he would stay…and he did. They pointed out the cast was diverse represent all America and hoped the administration would protect them, their planet, children, parents and inalienable rights. They said they hoped the show had inspired the new Vice President.

If they had a better crystal ball they could have included the protection of the Vice President who was threatened with a hanging when he chose to uphold an honest election rather than the overthrow of our government by President Trump four years later.

I just got past page 250 and the Constitutional Convention. That last chapter got me to dig out my copy of the most compelling passages of the Federalist Papers which Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay wrote to convince Americans to give themselves a national government that would protect all the states from being peeled away by foreign powers.

The bookmark from my recent campaign is peaking out and the bookmark in the Federalist papers is peaking out from where I left off in that book however many decades ago that I started it. I plan to finish it as I read Hamilton’s Biography. Chernow’s telling of the story is wonderful as was my family’s trip to watch it in Chicago five years ago.

As I read the chapter about the creation of a government that would keep us safe, the same President who wanted Pence lynched like his attempt to lynch the black kids he accused of rape, had just sent in the national guard over the objections of the governor of California to try to stir up riots so he could continue to erode the powers of anyone who might want our constitutional protections upheld.

I’ve posted 35,000 posts on /Lincolndemocrat.com since 2006. To find something particular in what may be 10 million words type something in its search engine. It ain’t Google so good luck.

Google is worth a shot too. Be sure to type Harry Welty with whatever subject you are researching. Try “snow sculptures by Harry Welty

Since 2001 I have written close to 400 columns off and one for the paper that can’t be bought. Type “Harry Welty” in search at their online site: https://duluthreader.com/home

I wrote a book to introduce myself and raise a little income to spend in my 4th challenge to Congressman Pete Stauber. You can order it here from Amazon: “Not Your Usual Republican” If it starts selling I would happily challenge Pete a fifth time. I needed four campaigns to get elected to the Duluth School Board. Like Hillary, I persist.

I have long neglected a campaign website that was put together for that 4th campaign here: www.weltyforcongress.com

After being elected to the School Board I started a website called: www.snowbizz.com.
