Tomorrow I’m filing for the Duluth School Board

I’m bushed. I spent most of the day gardening. I did write three different letters for door to door drops but wasn’t satisfied with any of them. Part of the reason is that while I’m running for the School Board I’m leaving open running for Congress next year against Lincoln’s assassin Congressman Pete Stauber. Traitor!

In fact, I am thinking of my campaign as two-in-one. School Board for four critical years because I’m about the only person who thinks there is a chance that I’ll be the candidate to defeat a Trump Republican for Congress. Look up the lyrics to John Kennedy’s campaign song in 1960 High Hopes. That’s me.

And of course if I do lose I’ll have no trouble finishing up my four year school board term.

I don’t have any beefs with any of the current school board members who are running for reelection to the at-large seat I’m aiming for. They are nice people. I met the husband of one of them at my Saturday French speakers group. But I have much to recommend me:

1. I have deep knowledge of our District.
2. I’m vested in it as I have a daughter teaching in our schools and a grandson at Denfeld.
3. I have the number on Republicans who built a party on their attempts to undermine public education.
4. In this day and age of crippled local newspapers I will return to telling Duluthians what’s going on in the Schools as I did for the 12 years I served on the Duluth School Board. I did it in my first website much of which has been lost. A little remains here and in this blog which I started in 2006. The Education category has about 920 posts and the category Duluth Schools has 1240 posts.
5. We would not have the Northstar Charter school had I not prevented its being shuttered before it was given a chance to test itself.
6-100. I have 150 days to write about them before November’s election.

Yes I will draw people’s attention to my congressional politics as well.

But to reiterate. Most people will expect that my only hope for really getting elected is as a Duluth School Board member. If they are right I’ll be a superlative Board member: I was pretty good the first time:
