At the Cherry Creek Library with my granddaughter and wife;

A couple days into over visit Claudia and I took our 2 yr old granddaughter to a library which was selling used books. I’m always into books and have managed to read a chapter a day of Chernow’s Hamilton since I arrived in Colorado. As usual it occurred to me to thake a picture of them and expound on why I bought them.

Here’s the trio:

THE POWER OF FILM
I am strongly attracted to film. My last column, now in Substack, describes a scene from the movie Stalag 17. My older grandson has taken an interest in movie making and analysis and I thought he would find it interesting. Here’s what Movie Director Francis Ford Coppola says about Howard Suber’s book on its front cover: “Howard Subers’s understanding of film storytelling fill the pages of this wise, liberating book. Much of it is surprisingly contrary to what ‘everyone knows.'” This grandson’s younger brother has appeared in a half dozen Duluth plays at the tender age of 15. He might be interested too.

THE LAST LINCOLNS
The modest amount I know about Abe Lincoln’s family after his death is modest but intriguing, sad and compelling. This, when I get to it, threatens to inform and depress me.

UNFREEDOM OF THE PRESS
By Mark L. Levin, a man who says what he thinks on FOX news without any lock on his lips. This nonsense critique of the world where he shoots his mouth off freely and duplicitously is just for my research. Levin’s a shameless partisan bloviator and fan of Donald Trump who is willfully oblivious to the freedom of his President to tell one lie after another and benefit from graft that would have embarrassed all his successors except for that asshole, President 45.

About the author
