The Gray Lady – a daily peak under her paywalled skirts?

3 DAYS AGO I WAS GOING TO DO JUSTICE TO THIS POST BY ADDING FOUR OR FIVE STORIES FROM THE NY TIMES WITH SHORT EXPLANATIONS OR QUOTES FROM THE STORIES. THEN I WAS SIDETRACKED. I’M WAITING FOR TRUMP TO AUTHORIZE THE DEPARTMENT OF IGNORANCE. UNTIL THEN I WILL KEEP READING THE GRAY LADY.

If I ever learned this before I’d forgotten it. “Gray and grey are both common spellings for the various neutral shades of color between black and white. Gray is more frequent in American English, and grey more common in Canada, the UK, and elsewhere.” I just googled it……Someday I might say I AIed it as search engines are now offering concoctions of the info they assemble from multiple sources.

The Gray/Grey lady is the New York Times the most venerable newspaper in the United States. It still exists. My wife and I began subscribing to it as our Duluth News Tribune began shriveling away like so many other city’s newspapers leaving a scar of local ignorance behind the loss.

I started grade school looking forward to the simplified news in the nationally produced Weekly Readers. I remember learning about heroin in them in about fourth grade and marveling that something that could ruin life could give these sad people tje exotic sounding state of “euphoria” that plunged them to such depths by addiction. I wondered then what adolescents struggling with self doubt have surrendered to time and time again. Could I safely experience this glorious state without falling into the abyss. I wanted a solution like Odysseus found when his ship passed the infamous island of the sirens whose beautiful voices lured ships to their destruction on rocky shores and had his men plug their ears as they rowed past while he was tied to a mast with his ears free to hear the song. He also wisely ordered them not to pay any attention if he ordered from his bonds to release him so he could swim to the Island.

And through my life I kept searching for more edifying news. In Seventh grade English I found it in Readers Digest magazines

SO MUCH MORE TO WRITE…..BUT I WON’T DO IT HERE AND NOW 3 DAYS LATER AFTER LOSING STEAM
