The weekend skinny

A few days ago I blogged that I was almost $1,500 shy of the $3,000 I would need to raise in increments of $50.00 or less per donor. Another couple hundred has come in through the mail and my children offered to help so that number is just over a grand. Frankly, I was frazzled with family stuff and a rush to come up with advertising and in no mood to prospect for more moola when I wrote that I might just give up on raising it. After singing my church solo today and not embarrassing myself too badly I’m just a little more collected. I spent this afternoon looking up phone numbers of 60 likely donors and will get on the horn and start calling them before tomorrow is out. I called more people in that in two days when I contacted most of the DFL delegates in my vain attempt to win the party’s nomination.

I paid a call on what was once the Senior Federation as they pick-nicked at Lincoln Park. I brought my brochures and handed a few out and waited until the time came for the candidates to answer the two big questions the seniors had for us. In the meantime Roger Reinert who brought at least a half dozen volunteers along made a bee line for me and shook my hand with some enthusiasm. He told me a good friend of his knew me and had spoken highly of me. We had a cordial if brief conversation before we drifted toward different hand shakes and I could only wonder how cordial Roger would feel when he got a better look at my hand out. I won’t win unless I give voters a good reason to pick me over Roger and I think my handout manages that.
