My first donation

After I returned from singing to my Mother this morning I headed up to my new campaign PO Box to see if any of the thousand plus fundraising letters had resulted in return mail with checks in them. I thought three letters might have made it through. Nada! An inauspicious start. I told Liam that I made up my mind right there and then that if very little money came in I would put no more in myself and let the campaign coast with the blog. This alarmed Liam and he guessed that the return mail had yet to make its way back. Maybe.

At any rate a neighbor of mine became my first contributor a little later on. Dick, a beloved teacher from his Denfeld Days, knocked on my back door and said he had something for me. We chatted for a while and bragged about our children then he handed me the first donation of my campaign – other than my own much of which I hope to convert into a loan. (I’ve spent way too much of my wife’s retirement money already on fixing the Duluth Schools.)

I’ll need $800 more to be able to order lawnsigns.

If you’d like to help my campaign PO Box is: Welty for School Board, PO Box 3434, Duluth MN 55803.
