On our last day in Strandby we drove an hour past the north end of Limsfjord to the North Sea to investigate Hanstholm one of a dozen major defensive position built by the Nazis in World War II to keep an allied invasion out. The Germans put 70,000 Danes to work to build up these defenses.
This gun turret supported a 38 cm Gun which was about twentyfive feet long and could lob shells fifty miles in any direction.
Nearby a machine gun emplacement now overlooks a few of the thousands of the Danish windmills which generate 20 percent of Denmark’s overall electrical power needs.
