Last Post: Artificial Intelligence as a boon or threat to tyrants
Next Post:

I stopped typing this summer. I managed a dozen posts but the last couple I never bothered to tie together becase the Last Post, Next Post stuff take a while and I was not sufficiently motiveated to do that. To knit them together it will take over an hour. I hope I do it but…
So, a summer watching Donald Trump open his fly and watch his true believers close their eyes has left me with a lot of stuff to write about. I’ll start here with my new Free Library. I never see anyone looking at the many that have profiferated but a month ago I got the idea of making the Lincoln Memorial and turning it into my own free library. A fine fellow and friend Mike Keller volunteered his sophisticated machinery and frankly built it with my looking over his shoulders. I got it cemented into my front yard last Tuesday befor my son returned home with my delightful granddaughters. I left it empty the four days of his visit but with 100 books purchased dirt cheap from the Duluth Public Library Sale.
I filled my free library with books a few days ago and then wondered if anyone would pick up a book. Today I opened the front wide to tempt someone to take a book. The first one was just borrowed today. It was 1491.

The borrower took the book and left the brief note I put in its pages as my record. The note is with my hard copy version of the book which as I noted I’ve not yet read. I bought mostly soft covers at the sale because they were $2 and hard covers were $3. Children’s books were a buck. I bought forty or so of the kids books – some great ones I’ve read to school classes as a school board member.
Five days of no check outs had me worried so today I swung the columns wide hoping someone would “borrow” a book. 1491 is about what existed in the Americas before Europeans brought greed, disease, and an advanced tech world to kill off the First peoples en masse.
I replaced the empty space with another book.
