I believe this blog began well after Andrew Sullivan’s blog which appeared during and busied itself disecting the Second GW Bush Administration. It had something like 50,000 daily followers who contributed sophisticated thoughts on politics left and right. When Sullivan, a gay Republican who had lauded the world of Reagan but also authored a book encouraging gay marriage began criticizing Bush policies he was hit hard by former “conservative” fans for being a queer. I loved Sullivan’s honest take on the world and read his blog for years and have attempted to honor his style.
If I manage to keep this blog going through Trump’s full and final four year term fighting his amoral disruption will ever remain a priority. But I have other interests which can be easily seen by reading through the list of “categories” that I’ve started and forgotten over the last 18 years of blogging.
NOTE: Sullivan is still at it although I haven’t read him in a while. He’s still at it and as I searched for a link I read today’s appraisal of Trump. It was eye opening but given Sullivan’s past understandable. He has a very different take and he cheered on Trump’s unwokeness. His Anti-
Biden tirade was off putting but worth considering for a more rational point of view. It was in my email but much of his blog is out of site and probably behind a paywall. Maybe you can find it with this: andrewsullivan@substack.com
Last night my French pen pal found the Wizard of Oz movie for me and sent me this link to watch it. I’ve hinted for the past five years I’d love for her to see it as it is a key to my Kansas upbringing and it shines a light on what it is to be an American from what’s now called “flyover” country. Its also about tornados, which is not a bad word to type into this blog’s search function, to see what I’ve written about that subject over the years. In fact, I just searched it myself. There were 13 posts that had the word in them. Now this post will join them. In fact I will be writing my next weeks column about the Wizard of Oz which is also the subject, or backdrop, of my latest snow sculpture.
This is the French dubbed Wizard of Oz with VO soundtrack meaning the dubbing gives way to the singing in the Voice Original. https://www.tokyvideo.com/fr/video/le-magicien-d-oz-vf
