In fact I’ve written two columns for the Reader since Prove me Wrong the last time I posted on Feb 18th.
We had a snow storm that kept me shoveling for a couple days. I spent three days painting our church pastor’s office. The fellows across the street told me about “Hoagie” Haagenson a long time friend of UMD Hockey and asked if I would be willing to make a snow memorial of sorts. I asked for an email address and said I’d give it some thought. I had yet to read the several thoughtful pieces soon to be written about him including the one linked in the previous sentence. I wrote back to the fellows who are hockey players that yes I would but because they were the fellows who knew him I thought the memorial should be in their yard. I also mentioned that at this sunny time of year the shadow of their house would preserve it a little longer. And one more thing. Envious of all their strong backs I wanted them to pile the snow up.
On Friday of last week I woke at 4 AM. Wrote a rough draft of a column for the Reader. Painted the church for three hours to finish the job. Came home and worked a pile of snow the boys had helped me prepare the day before by dousing it with water for half an hour to cook it to perfection for the following day then came home and finished the column and sent it in. Whew.
The work on the sculpture continued until late yesterday afternoon. More on that after I share my column in the last Reader.
