Next Post: Prove me wrong. Cong Stauber is a traitor
Thursday and Friday I worked furiously to sculpt Pete Stauber’s treachery. Getting the proportions of the dome of the US capitol right had taken all the previous day. I had brought six big tubs of snow to melt in my basement all morning the day before and dumped many buckets of water on a huge patch of snow in front of my sculpture to melt over night to build a hockey player the following day. Completing this below took at least five and many six days:

This is actually the photo at the end of Saturday. Friday I rushed so that I could go out to dinner and watch Dial M for Murder at the Duluth Northshore with Claudia. It was her birthday. Both of us were afraid I’ll fall asleep during the play as I have been dozing off a lot when we watch television. I’ve woken a few times mid snore. But I managed thinking how a good night’s sleep would be……then I remembered.
I had been eager to write a column about my being kicked out of the GOP caucuses Tuesday night. Any other Friday deadline day I’d have had been polishing it off before dinner. I had to write a rough draft of my Reader column and finish it in the morning before I headed off to my bi-monthly French speakers group. I also had to write a pleading letter to the editor hoping he’d save space for me and wait until Saturday morning. I sent him the cartoon I’d had an AI create for me. I don’t know if it got either. I discovered a message saying an email I’d sent him was bounced the next day.
I worked on the snow in a fury. I will be on the Republican ballot and I hope to make up my intention to campaign from home with my ferocious antagonism to the treachery of the Republican Party. They have betrayed our nation’s history.
By the time the image above was complete I’d set aside painting the name Stauber and putting his college colors on the hockey uniform. I had several people stop, commend me and tell me they’d already read about what I was making on Facebook. That means somebody is reading it here on this blog. When I showed Claudia this photo she came up with a more positive story than mine about learning to win a hockey champion with unsportsmanlike lifting of a hockey goal to a maturity of turning over our constitution and capitol to help a lying President cheat his way to a victory in the 2020 presidential election.
I will harp on Pete Stauber’s treason for the next six months and try to raise enough money to send every voter in our District my opion of his treachery before the August primary.
But there is Claudia’s much more positive take on a hockey player upending the Capitol. Its currently controlled by Republicans but maybe not for much longer. Because of Renee Good, and Alex Pretty and the crowds putting themselves between Trump’s targets and the masked thugs that ICE has become Minnesota the state has become a symbol of peaceful opposition like the Danes wearing the Star of David.
What better symbol of Minnesota than a hockey player. So take your pick as to the meaning of this sculpture.
a villain like this:

NOTE: on Superbowl Sunday my daughter told me she had seen commentary of Facebook that indicated people knew the idea behind my snow sculpture to wit: that long ago pre-Congress there was a controversy about a native son helping win a third division National Hockey championship by the unsportsmanlike lifting up a goal post. She told me she even looked for confirmation of this on the Internet but failed to find it. I think an AI search engine might have helped her but it is true. Pete raised up a hockey goal post for no other reason than winning a game. Is this a crime? Naw, basketball players pretend to be fouled all the time. But someone likely still smarting all these ears later posted their copy of the event on the internet. I got several camera shots of the action one of which is found in this post from a day earlier. I have watched less hockey than football and can only judge from others more knowledgeable about the games rules, norms and ethics. This is the video with commentary from reporters “Watch Stauber heave with his shoulder” of what they and the camera and the television audience saw but presumably was missed by the referees. I live across the street from a house full of hockey players. I should ask them how they would feel if they had lost a championship in this manner – or won it. But as I’ve been telling passers-by. A hockey game is one thing. A national election determined by who can send the most armed protesters to the capitol to beat the crap out of national police and chase the Congress into underground bunkers is treason as is crawling out of the shelters and saying it was no biggie.
On the other hand. You can clearly see one of the St. Lawrence team members smiling ruefully as he looks at Stauber. Alls fair is love and war maybe. The commentators after saying it deserved to get a penalty but was a gutsy thing to do shrug it off suggesting the refs didn’t want to call a penalty with just over a minute to go to the end of the team. In a battle of life and death…..
But in the attack on the Congress Stauber was one of the refs. His Republican president had the gun to the head of every Republican ref that would later judge him. And Trump pulled the trigger on those Republicans, like Lynn Cheney, who saw his attack dogs as a threat to democracy. Most were defeated in the 2022 elections. Trump was treasonous and his minions, like Stauber, share his guilt.
For comparison’s sake – There are miracles on ice:
