Working with modeling clay at the lap level and snow at the U Haul van level are slightly different.
When I design something with clay it helps me work out where to put the snow later including excess snow I might need for repairs or to “cook” for a couple days to give me ample sticky snow at a later date and planned according to the weather forecast.
So here’s the model I have which with luck I will have roughed out tomorrow. I’ll explain what metaphor it spells out later. I want to get to it quick today, before the cooked snow hiding the hockey player turns too icy under the layer of dry snow that I heaped on it to blanket it and keep it warm. It’s almost nine and many days I start by thinking I’ll be able to do so much more. For instance yesterday I thought I’d have our nation’s capitol building finished windows columns and all. Nope. I just have the shell and its very generic. I wasn’t sure which of four cardinal directions I wanted to view the capitol. From the side facing the National Mall where the nincom-DUPE traitors scaled the walls on January 6th, 2020 or the side facing the House Office buildings or the Supreme Court or Union Station and the Senate Office buildings.

I put the reflecting pool steps on my clay mock up but that’s too busy and too much work.
I wanted the building to be knocked askew like a goal in a Hockey game. I wanted it more askew than the clay model. When I began building the Dome I was not expecting to have to make it so massive like the real dimensions. I had taken seven big plastic boxes of snow to my basement yesterday to soak up heat in my basement. That’s another way to cook snow. Inside. A few years ago people kept sending me the fun snow sculptures of four brothers in the Twin Cities suburbs who made fantastical sculptures in their front yard. I read that they would shovel a whole yard of snow into their garage with a heated floor. I was so jealous.
I was able to apply my cooked snow to the sculpture by about 3PM yesterday. I especially need more snow for the dome which I think was so heavy it may have bowed the roof a little. If so, that means more shaving of the snow today. My first job today will to engrave windows and columns where eyes expect to see them. Frankly exactitude is not required as I have know idea which of the buildings four sides this most resembles. The Dome however needs to be about the right ratio of our eyes will register it as childlike. The Dome from the roof up is almost half again taller than the floors it looms over.
I was lucky that the 34 degree weather held till about 3 AM this morning. That means I will have a big reservoir of snowball snow to put my hockey player lifting the capitol for Trump loonies to pour into. Some of you are beginning to catch on to the metaphor I mean to express. But that will come later. I’ll just add that I’m working off television images that you can see in the stills around my clay model. Saturday if all goes well I’ll paint some team colors on our Benedict Arnold.
