I have spent the last few days writing about my family perhaps for a book although my success with books is less than Spartan. I only managed about 1,500 words yesterday. Monday I cranked out almost 6,000. I spent more time tearing through Atkinson’s second volume on the Revolutionary War. It has taken me through every nook and cranny and flashed a very bright light into them. At SuperValue yesterday I met a woman who told me she had taken a picture of my Washington Crossing the Delaware. She mentioned that she and her husband had just finished watching TURN. She was sorry it was over because she was enthralled by it. Its a drama about General Washington’s spy network. I vaguely recall it from its debut around 2014. I don’t think I was in to costume dramas then but I did recall some history books published from about that time on the subject. One was about Culpeper’s spy ring another titled Washington’s Six or maybe Seven was along the same theme.
So Claudia and I watched the first episode which took place in Loyalist refuge New York, New York. It was pretty good.
I read more of Atkinson’s book but it was too early to turn in and I had another idea for sculpture as George and Company had taken body blows from the recent stretch of warm weather. I thought there was enough snow in them to make a Honda Pilot so I went outside at 9:30 pm and leveled the crew of the good ship Hession Pop. This afternoon I continued the process although the cold snap meant I could only trim my way to the Pilot.
I also got a flurry of emails about my appearance tomorrow night at Denfeld’s auditorium at 6:30. That’s the congressional candidate introduction but in one of my emails it was described as a debate which I think among four candidate that don’t know each other would be better served as a Q and A session. I can’t bring notes but I’ll be given a paper and pencil they told me.
And I’m looking forward to having my next Reader column come out tomorrow or Friday. Its Washington Crossing the Delaware.
The editor of the Reader, no fan of Trump, sent me an email today. I answered it. Here is the back and fourth.
Subject: I WONDER…
Harry,
Since you still use the title “Republican” for yourself, I wonder if you would be interested in writing a piece that truly puzzles me – Why in the world would anyone want to be associated with that name when it’s being used by the pack of criminals currently in our highest offices. Personally, I think it’s disgraceful that anyone would still identify Republican.
Just a thought…
And here is my reply:
***, I dance around that question with damn near every column I write. Ironically, not many Republicans read the Reader so I keep broadcasting to non Republicans what they already think of them in hopes of escaping the blame for what they have become.
Also, if we are to avoid civil war we need a Marshall plan to make sure Magans can be rehabilitated.
If that sounds mad so be it.
I will probably run as a liberal republican for the DFL primary. Trump critic George Conway is doing that in New York. I don’t want to drain anti-Trump votes as an independent candidate.
