This blog has over its not quite two decades served as a hit and miss diary. My son takes reams of scientific information and has AI do the trudge work to analyze it and churn out summaries that are digestible. I’ve thought about something like that for my blog. Could I use such a feature to summarize what I’ve written about my family or the Red Plan or my analysis of Republican history in my lifetime and before?
So the gaps like this last month when I packed up my computer and hauled it to Arizona where my niece’s marriage took place but I never managed to plug it in for our two weeks of travel will remain mostly a mystery. That’s sort of a shame because I took in a lot of books, news and experiences that I would have enjoyed writing about. The reading and Audible book listening for 3,000 miles of driving were especially rich.
Before we left we saw the first installment of the new six part series on the Revolutionary War for PBS by Ken Burns. So we downloaded one of its historian commentators recent volume one history of said conflict. Rick Atkinson is a damn good generalist historian who explains in his prologue why he pivoted from another three-parter on American fighting in the Western front to our foundational War. I bought the first volume of that series after rave reviews but its still waiting for me. Not so the Audible v olume One for the Revolutionary war. We got twenty hours of it down with ten more to go. We will listen to it as we put Christmas jigsaw puzzles together. But while we are waiting for that we have resumed the Burns series finishing part 4 last night. I told Claudia that I was interested in getting the entire Atkinson series for Xmas if anyone was interested and she informed me only the first two books are available. My bookshelves are patient.
I also resumed my more intense study of French on the Trip. Last night I got out of bed after dreaming in French because I’d stopped sleeping. I took along a French/English version of the Great Gatsby to read. That’s the next post.
