Three hours after the polls open in my usually conscientious precinct Claudia and I strolled over to cast our votes. We were votes 15 and 16 respectively. No one came in to vote the first hour or hour and a half at all. There were already 17 absentee votes BUT…..
As I told the volunteers manning the registration this is what happens when you don’t have a daily paper anymore followed by my thanks for the long day’s service that they will be giving the community.
Considering how down I felt listening to PBS News Hours coverage of the vile treatment of the people our system has put in a vice to keep them both marginally paid and fearful of removal despite all the cheap food and housing they help provide America I’m feeling hopeful, notwithstanding today’s civic embarrassment at the polls. Maybe it was the tortured dream I had before waking this morning. Its a garden variety of dream. I was trapped trying to find my way out of a vast, confusing Mall of America Maze. A Greek Oracle would probably tell me the same thing as a Freudian. I was grappling with how to help America “straighten up and fly right” as its Commander-in-Chief aims his bloated gassy body at our Democracy in a jack booted reprise of 9-11.
I think writing some recent blog posts also helped clear my mind. I’m not finished.
