Osnos, China and Have Yachts

I saw this book title yesterday in a NY Times news story and again today. I read it outloud to Claudia because as I told her it’s a great title “Haves and Have Yachts.”

On our way home from Perkins after church we had a few minutes to listen to interview show on NPR. It was about a growing exasperation of mine the cancerous growth of Big millionaires that the interviewee described as so immune from interference he described them as being sovereign by which I took it they made their own rules. As we pulled in to park we learned the speaker was the New Yorker columnist who had just written Haves and Have Yachts. So when we got inside I googled

I noticed other books Evan Osnos had written and thought I recognized it as one we had read before our 2017 two week cruise of Chinas Yangtze River. So I went down to my bookshelves of the rest of the world and discovered it with a lead story about a Taiwanese soldier who swam to Red China in the opposite direction of many mainlanders fleeting to freedom.

So I put “Osnos” into Lincoln Democrat’s search button and found five (now to be six) posts including one that showed a picture I’d taken of the Chinese bibliography we’d perused before our trip. This post mentions books I need to keep better track of for my reading list which I stopped keeping close track of after 2017

Here is one more catch all post about the books on China I’ve read
