Trump wants me to listen to him at 10 tonight. I won’t. A sneak attack is a lousy way of winning a Nobel Peace prize.
My grandfather told me the worst mistake of his life was voting for a presidential candidate who vowed not to send Americans to fight in World War I. The Maga’s now have a President who vowed to keep America out of “forever wars.”
Arrogance and senility are a bad combination. Throw in a trade war and economic retrenchment as Iran eyes revenge and you have a real picnic. And all of this to keep a corrupt Netanyahu out of jail for a couple more years. I’m going to take a walk.
AMENDMENT to this first reaction compose 12 hours later:
My first thought on reading my last night’s reaction was to add and the Japanese citizens had no more say in the Pearl Harbor attack than Americans did it this, Trumps latest “mommy watch me dive again.”
I was in no mood to watch a Ted Lasso while the hour passed before Trump was to speak to the nation. I took a walk and read a couple texts from a friend who was an economist in the State Department. I asked if he’d take a call and chatted with him in good humor despite occasional breaks do it poor reception. He told me that Iran was running out of rockets as were the Houthis in Yemen who were threatening to blow up shipping in the Indian Ocean.
By the time I’d chatted and walked for 45 minutes I was ready to listen to Trump’s thankfully 4 and a half minutes of I love you God drivel. A shittier sermon I’ve never heard.
Time will tell whether this is the next “forever war” that Bannon and Taylor Green are lambasting Trump over. My pal said he didn’t think the 85% of Iranians held hostage to a theocracy they detest will become like the Americans on the day after December 7, 1942. They sacrificed a lot materially as Iran poured resources into nuclear weaponry. With the value of their principal export oil dropping as the world finds alternative energy sources it remains to be seen if the 92 million people of Iran will double down and go after even more hidden uranium enrichment RE development.
I don’t feel any sympathy for the theocrats in Iran. I blame short sighted US foreign policy for their being brought into existence…..a short-sightedness not unlike Donald Trump’s “I need to make Americans stop thinking about my pathetic Flag Day parade with shuffling soldiers telegraphing their displeasure with being turned into Trumpy trophies. That’s Trump he drops a turd every couple of days so you stop thinking about the stinky turd from the day before. And you praise God for it with your flag lapel…..except for the unsmiling Secretary of pissing of the World standing mute behind you. Little Marco wasn’t proudly wearing his flag last night. After gutting USAID he deserves his embarrassment.
