News I email myself

I still routinely spend a couple hours reviewing the news only now I primarily skim the headlines in the New York Times and the Washington Post (despite Bezos hands covering his butt like a kid before a spanking)

Yes Trump seems bent on destroying our Constitution with the help of an entire party led by Trump phallus suckers. I still can’t divine whether in the back of his mind he is only trying to stay on his surf board as he tries to escape the jaws of critics like me or, as seems increasinly likely, replace democracy with a corporate mafia.

As Earth’s population continues to abandon democracy it faces perils that the Times and Post remind us about as we in America circle the Trump toilet bowl. Here are two introduced with paragraphs I copied from the text: Maybe I should create a category like my new “French Posts” and call it “Effing our children.”

My son who is having to negotiate Trump’s obliteration of scientific research told me that our brains now contain .05 percent of plastic waste. He has two new tiny daughters. He lives where plastic and other waste is shipped out of sight and out of mind but still there’s more than when my grandchildren, children and I were kids. I remember glass milk bottle deliveries.

From today’s Times: The Story You’ve Been Told About Recycling is a Lie If you don’t have a Times subscription here is a taste:

Opinion: “That still pales in comparison to what I witnessed in Indonesia. Across the country’s 17,000-odd islands, domestically consumed plastic is so mishandled that 365 tons of it are believed to enter the sea every hour. And yet, deep in the highlands of Java, there are hellscapes of imported Western waste — toothpaste tubes from California, shopping bags from the Netherlands, deodorant sticks from Australia — stacked knee-high as far as the eye can see. Too voluminous to even attempt to recycle, it is used as fuel in scores of bakeries that supply Java’s street markets with tofu, a culinary staple. The result is some of the most lethal cuisine imaginable, with poisons from incinerated Western plastic ingested hourly by great numbers of Indonesians.”

From today’s Post: Scientists have a new explanation for the last two years of record heat If you don’t have a Post subscription here is a taste:

Researchers are beginning to pinpoint how clouds are changing as the world warms. In Goessling’s study, published in December in the journal Science, researchers analyzed how clouds have changed over the past decade. They found that low-altitude cloud cover has fallen dramatically — which has also reduced the reflectivity of the planet. The year 2023 — which was 1.48 degrees Celsius above the preindustrial average — had the lowest albedo since 1940.

I skipped the story about how twenty somethings think the Trump world is really cool. Eff them for effing their children.

I did read the very interesting story about how the 22 states with Democratic Attorney Generals are following the example of Republican AG’s in the Obama years and taking the Trumpified Federal government to court. Cut to the chase and it tells you they will be cut off at the knees if our Congress approves all of Trump’s actions. Their ace in the hole now is that ignoring the statutes of Congress puts a target on his executive orders.

From the story: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/14/opinion/trump-attorneys-general-democrats.html

Opinion: “These kinds of lawsuits may be, at best, stopgaps. The president and his Republican majority in Congress are preparing to pass next year’s federal budget, which may codify the spending cuts that Mr. Trump is now trying to impose unilaterally. Then the attorneys general’s legal challenges will become moot. In the American system, political victories matter more, and last longer, than court cases.”

And what if Trump ignores the Courts…….Read my trigger happy “corollary” about that possibility/likelyhood?
