My piss and vinegar has been in retirement for the past three or so weeks. I don’t think I’ve given up. I’m just sitting back and taking stock of things. I want to so some writing but the blog isn’t calling me very strongly.
Today I finished the first book of this year: Travels with George by Nathaniel Philbrick. I discussed it with Claudia when I finished and it prompted me to look some things up on the Internet. Washington’s Presidency was beset by anonymous critics who didn’t like the idea of a strong central government. To give himself a running start after he was elected Washington began a long grueling tour of the then still poorly connected United States.
One thing led to another after I set the completed book aside and I looked up Rush Limbaugh on the Web. I’ve rarely wasted my breath giving the man the hell he deserved. For now I’ll just say he lived to Feb 17 of 2021 and saw the fruit of thirty long years running down our Democracy on January 6th of that year.
The man who incited the insurrection also bestowed on the dying Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom. A suitable tribute I suppose.
