A very nice February First

Monday I actually had a nice long sit down with the publisher of the Reader. We were both masked of course. We reviewed his plans. I am intrigued. They may keep me a little busy over the next few months.

I had a very nice day substitute teaching today, Tuesday.

I returned a call from local scientists about the possibility of removing sulphur from mining waste. I had recently heard there was important work being done on this and I fished for some info. There is work being done. I got the call back. It’s made some ideas I have seem very worthy of pursuit.

I attended the Republican Precinct Caucuses tonight. I was one of the few people wearing a mask.

The first person I spoke to at the Caucuses was the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s Duluth Reporter. Jana Hollingsworth drove past my house as I was working on King Kong and stopped to take some pictures a couple weeks ago. I’m not quite sure there was anything in it worthy of a Star Trib story although I’ve made it in the Strib in previous years.

Jana saw me again tonight and zeroed in on me when she arrived to cover the caucuses. She asked me if I meant to be at the GOP caucus. I said of course I did. She pulled out her note pad and asked me who I supported for Governor. “Walz” I told her. Jana did a double take …..I’ll save the rest for the Reader. Just before heading to bed I checked the Strib’s online story about the statewide caucuses. There was just a mention of the 50 or so Republicans. (A dramatically pathetic number of attendees for eastern Duluth) I’m not quite sure there was anything in my short interview worthy of a Star Trib mention although my previous political antics have earned a couple footnotes there.

It might be different this year.

When I left the caucuses I walked over to a couple DFLers who were at a small desk to show DFLers where to caucus for the few that wanted to skip zoomy caucuses. I mentioned that the low numbers of Republicans ought to give the Democrats some encouragement for the election. They seemed pleased to hear this.

I came home energized. So much so, that I stayed up to watch another French Detective show. I didn’t even doze off despite the long day of teaching. I’ll substitute again tomorrow.

After work tomorrow I’ll have five free days to continue my planning, plotting and considering how to save America from the Charles Manson wing of the Republican Party. That’s the one Timmy McVeigh helped promote by blowing up that Federal Building in Oklahoma. He too was eager to start a race war.
