A proposal which could address some of the safety issues at the deplorable Ordean High School location was raised again by one of the few professionals willing to point out the folly of the site Kent Worley.
From his first comments about the Red Plan two years ago Kent has always focused his attention on the Ordean site. He is one of the most eminent landscape architects in northeastern Minnesota and those people who enjoy the lakewalk have Kent to thank. Until Kent raised objections the extension of the Interstate was simply slated to be a wide open mowing over the the Superior coast line making the lake unreachable from downtown to London Road.
Kent has never shrunk from his oft stated belief that children crossing 40th Ave East from the District approved parking lots to the compact high school site would be a safety nightmare.
If and when Ordean does become a high school there will be plenty of time to point fingers at the staff and engineers on the City’s payroll and the Minnesota State Highway dept. The District’s only interest is in expediting the construction. It will leave a new school board to deal with the traffic questions that are belatedly raised after a student is injured crossing the Avenue.
