I spent the morning reading my favorite paper for two hours to folks who listen on the State’s radio for the blind. Not much to read. I had to scramble when I ran out of local stuff in the Trib with an hour to go. I found an article from the Cloquet Paper which reversed the story reported in the Trib which said that Cloquet would cut off open enrollment to families outside the Cloquet School District.
When I was finished an employee rushed in and sat down in the recording booth to ask me who she should vote for. I’ve got a lot of that lately including a retired judge from the Sixth District.
She told me that she had just gone to East High School over her child who had a class of 46 students. She’s not a happy camper.
I was a little depressed by yesterday’s high humidity and took a walk around the neighborhood to shake off my lethergy. I happened to walk past East High on my way back and saw a passel of school buses lined up as students streamed out of the building. Three police cars were lined up on 4th street flanking the buses with the officers out. One of the patrol car’s lights were flashing. I hope that kind of police presence doesn’t become routine. Their budget is a little lean although I just read that the City Council authorized new digs for the police for $19 million in new taxes. Those would be over and above the proposed tax increase.
