Here’s something I’ve never written about before. I was saving it for my book but as I contemplate my race for the Senate it gives me comfort.
Ann Wasson’s modest victory has been taken by some as a sign that East Duluth supports the Red Plan. I just typed up a ton of addresses with 55803 and 55804 zip codes. As I mentioned in the previous post I was tied down, like Gulliver, last Fall as incumbent Ann Wasson ran for reelection to the school board. I didn’t bother looking for a candidate to run against her until the day before filing closed. Several people were interested and one took me to task for being so late in looking for a challenger.
Actually, I had a great candidate, Gary Glass. He would have cleaned up and, after winning, could have resigned his at-large seat and voted with a new majority to replace himself in the District seat. That would have left Dr. Dixon with an unsympathetic 5-2 school board. Why that fell apart is yet to be told.
Instead, a different candidate was pressured to file and run against Wasson. That candidate didn’t want to run. That candidate didn’t campaign. That candidate felt that prayer groups would pray her into office. That candidate was discovered by Ann’s allies to be an extremely “conservative” figure. How conservative? Let’s just say that she regards the Republican Party as being controlled by a bunch of ultra liberals.
When Gary Glass quit the race it left Ann Wasson without a serious challenger. In fact, that challenger scared the bejesus out of lots of Democrats who violently oppose the Red Plan and led them to cast a vote for Wasson.
Anyone who thinks that I will lose out in eastern Duluth in the primary because East Duluth wants that Ordean stadium so badly may be in for a very big surprise.
