“Tell people how things can be among men.”

I was surprised to get an email from my chief “civilian” adversary Mimi Larson yesterday. Unlike some of her allies she has been cautious in her public criticism of me. There has been an edge of forced civility between us, smiles that are a tad too wide to be entirely genuine, from both of us I might ad. I took her email as a genuine effort to find common ground, a short truce so to speak.

The email was short. Mimi wrote that she had read my post on my visit to my Mother. She was touched. She too has been tending to the needs of elderly family members in a similar situation as my Mother.

She concluded by telling me I was a “good son.” It was a kind post and I thanked her noting with some regret that I would still be tough in future posts where I saw shortcomings in the other side’s, Mimi’s side’s, arguments and evidence.

In that vein I was worried when NPR broadcast a radio story this morning busting a cherished old myth that many Americans are very fond of. Fortunately, the one detail that got busted didn’t really undermine the myth. Give it a listen. Its only 3.48 minutes long.
