Attack of the deer

I read Claudia to sleep last night. She started life in Iowa so when we heard the book Thunderbolt kid by Bill Bryson praised on National Public Radio by a couple Iowa readers it seemed a natural for us to dig into. Its much more about growing up in the baby boom years and it is very funny. I first heard about Bryson, who could be called a writer of travelogues, from my non-reading Brother who bust a gut reading Bryson’s book on Australia. That was a pretty good recommendation too.

With visions of Sky King, Roy Rogers and a cavalcade of B grade science fiction movies dancing in our dreams we got through the night. In the morning I made some coffee and was settling comfortably down to reading the Trib when I heard a call for me that sounded a bit like the blob had invaded the house.

I rushed up in time to see two deer hightailing it out of our lawn. They paused by the Avenue and surveyed it quickly to see if it was safe to cross. If quadrupeds eating our flowers is the worst I have to face today I’ll count it a blessing.

Off to court.

I’ll reread that story about the unhappy homeowners near the new western middle school site again. If I’m allowed to take my laptop in the courthouse I might even link to it. You heard the story here first but I’ll give the Trib credit for actually interviewing a few of the soon to be displaced homeowners.
