Speaking of faith

This is an email exchange that was quite uplifting compared to the email mentioned in the preceding post: I highly recommend the link from C. Thoughtful people will appreciate what Mr. Palmer has to say.

Bless you C____,

I heard the same broadcast as I was traveling home from a school reunion today. I was so impressed with what Mr. Palmer said that I jotted down a few notes and planned to link to his radio interview on my website. I see you have found that link for me. Thanks a million.

Mr. Welty,

Listening to Minnesota Public Radio’s Speaking of Faith program this weekend, the guest, Parker Palmer, mentions a recently released study done on success in schools. In comparing the many strategies schools take to improve themselves, nothing is more successful than the basic factor of “trust” within the school district. Without “trust”, no
amount of money, buildings, technology, or progressive programs will make the school successful. Mr. Palmer calls it an obvious “secret in plain sight”. The duluth school board has destroyed the “trust”, and therefore, according to this study, destroyed any chance of success for their PLAN and for our schools. The various plans, the costs, the construction, the legal issues, all these things distract from this very fundamental issue. Anyway, this was a moment of clarity for me and I thought I would share it with you. Maybe the mentioned study could help our case.

Thank you for the important work you are doing!
