Tea Party Anyone?

On Wednesday there will be a “Tea Party” by the DECC symbolizing public anger over the incredible debt burden being laid down on our children’s backs at the Federal level. I have mixed feelings about this.

As a one-time fiscally conservative Republican I’ve grown furious with the spendthrift ways of the GOP – a trillion dollars for a dumb war – trillions for medicare benefits all paid for by borrowing against our children’s future rather than paying for through taxes today.

The GOP has encouraged credit card debt and depended upon China and other nations to lend us credit while legalizing usury by passing laws permitting pay day loans. In the 1990’s they shelved the Depression Era Glass-Steagall Act which put restraints on the investments of banks.

To hear the Fox News pundits belatedly advertise for Tea Parties makes me ill. Where they hell have they been for the past eight years? But tea parties do seem in order and no where more so than in Duluth where going into the red has been confused with pouring a foundation for public education.

I calculated in this old post that the Red Plan would cost Duluth school district residents $4,777 which is more than the original trillion dollar bailout will cost most Americans.

I don’t know if I’ll be at the DECC at noon on Wednesday but other Let Duluth Vote folks will be and they will pass out lawnsigns and flyers. I hope even more show up at the next School Board meeting next Tuesday where the Board plans to throw $51 million dollars away on the worst public high school planned in Minnesota history – Horrordean High School. But don’t worry. Ordean teachers are telling our children that everything will be OK.
