Quibbling with Education Minnesota’s heavy hand

A Twin Cities acquaintance sent me this email after reading Education Minnesota’s Union Newsletter:

[Its] Disturbing to see who is running our public schools – all the more reason why students are going elsewhere

Attached are excerpts from the Nov, Dec, Jan magazines that Education MN put out.

The crap here is unbelievable – read for yourself.

Then note the article on the last page, “if you don’t like your school board we’ll help you get rid of them” – says the union

Let the union run the school district in collusion with the contractors who build the schools. Together they fund levy referendums and get their favored candidates elected to the school board – makes you wonder why we even have school boards – they could be stricken out of statutes and no one would notice their absence.

My Reply:

********

I haven’t gotten the DFT’s endorsement for the school board in any of the seven elections I’ve run for the Board. Still, I don’t begrudge them their endorsement process. I’ll ask for it again next summer.

I agree that voters ought to follow “caveat emptor” when the union’s endorse candidates. Its worth remembering that the union’s chief weapon is the strike and these days teacher strikes are few and far between. Charters weaken their hand.
