Selling Central, Pro and Con from School Board members themselves

Alanna Oswald’s pro sale view

Duluth School Board Member’s View: Why I voted to sell Central site: Money could have helped bridge gap in finances It begins:

The public wants Central High School, with 77 acres, off the expense sheet of Independent School District 709. The Duluth Federation of Teachers feared the sudden windfall of $14.2 million was a trick. Duluth Public Schools Academy (aka Edison Schools) wanted a vacant school building. No real estate advice was given to School Board members as a whole, despite this member asking for it, before the vote was taken March 31 against selling Central.

Nora Sandstad’s anti-sale view

Duluth School Board Member’s View: Why I voted against selling Central site: Long-term losses would harm schools It begins:

As a member of the Independent School District 709 Duluth Public School Board, I voted on March 31 not to sell the Central High School site so it could be used as a new charter high school. I made this decision after gathering a lot of information, considering the perspectives of hundreds of concerned citizens, and evaluating whether such a sale would be in the best interest of the ISD 709 community.
