Open or closed?

I spent five hours yesterday morning madly trying to fix my printer for a closed meeting to discuss contract negotiations. I was planning to make a presentation. That left me with three hours to put it together instead of the eight I’d counted on. It was just as well I lost that time and simply sat on my stack of unsorted evidence. Some Board members are a bit put out with me for talking too much about our contracts on my blog. Even our emails are to remain hushed. I think the one I sent out suggesting that we share everything with the public was particularly poorly received. Sigh! I’ll probably bite my tongue until the settlement.

Oh well, the big news was the apparent abandoning of closed high school campuses at lunch. When last the public read about this the Board was hell bent for leather to proceed next year.

I didn’t get home until 8PM, four hours after I’d left for the School Board. Claudia and I went out for a late dinner when the Trib’s Jana H. called to ask me about the lunch hour. I told her it was a bit of a surprise to me to see it die with a whimper. I explained that the $200,000 plus price tag accompanying it pretty well did it in because we are, as always, living in an Era of austerity – that and a lot of angry kids who didn’t want to be bottled up and teachers who didn’t want to do the bottling.
