The Editors: An offer has been made. A pretty generous offer, too: $14.2 million for the hard-to-sell 77-acre Central High School property high atop Duluth’s hillside. The site has gone unsold and unused since 2011 after its sale was counted on to help balance the district’s books. And now the district has a $3.3 million budget shortfall.

From Chair Harala: This month, Duluth School Board members are considering whether to modify policies prohibiting the sale of public school properties to other schools. We are considering this because the district has received an offer from another school system wishing to purchase the Central High School property.
Our role as Duluth public School Board members is to make a decision to serve the best interests of the Independent School District 709 community. read the rest.
