Duluth School Board member Gary Glass will attempt to add a fourth question to the November ballot at tonight’s special school board meeting. Glass’s referendum question, the language of which is being hammered out, will ask in essence: “Do you support the school board decision to spend $293 for the Long Range Facilities Plan (Red Plan)?

Gary unsuccessfully attempted to add a fourth such question at last month’s school board meeting but the District called its attorneys during the meeting who advised that such a question was not legally permissible. Recently the same attorneys opinion that a Let Duluth Vote petition was invalid was overruled by the Minnesota Attorney General.

The special meeting tonight was called last Friday when it was discovered the Board’s resolution authorizing a vote on an operational levy was invalid. The Board will vote on a corrected resolution for the three operational levy questions tonight. Glass hopes to add his question as a fourth and separate question.

Tonight’s meeting will take place at 6:30 at the Duluth School Administration building.

A Committee of the Whole is scheduled to follow the Special Meeting. For the first and only time during the Red Plan’s development the School Board will look at the educational specifications of the Red Plan tonight prior to approving the construction managers and architects who will oversee portions of the $293 million dollar building project.

The agenda for the Committee of the whole is attached. Note Item 2c referred to in the last paragraph.
