“No one will watch it”

John Ramos wrote another interesting investigation into the City Government’s disinclination to keep its activities public in the Duluth Reader over the weekend: DEDA spends $70,000 on website, destroys archives. You can read it here.

At last months school board meeting I raised the possibility of recording the committee meetings of our school board so that when we said little about various subjects at school board meetings the public could go to the preceding committee meetings to check out the discussions we had. Chair Seliga Punyko sent out a questioning email to board members asking what they thought of my suggestion. Tonight I heard back from Mike Miernicki.

It will cost us money and no one will watch it. It is an absolute waste of staff time and money. We are a small school board in a small town in northern Minnesota.
Mike Miernicki

Of course Mike was eager to end tonight’s HR and Business Committee meetings after thirty minutes. If he’s not interested in them then surely the public can’t be any more interested than he.
