Singin the Blues

I was sent these lyrics which were described as an entry in a News Tribune sponsored challenge for localized blues lyrics. I like them.

The Red Plan Blues

By the taxpayers of Duluth

Well, I woke up at Johnson Controls, with a Red Plan looking at me.

Yes, I woke up in Johnson Controls, that ol Red Plan was all I could see.

And it caused the referendum to fail, caused a whole lot of misery.

Now I asked Keith Dixon, Tell me, what will we do?

Yes, I asked ol Keith, What we gonna do?

They done closed Central and combined it with Denfeld and East.

I went down to Nettleton and Lincoln just to get myself an education.

Yes, I headed to Nettleton and Lincoln cause I heard they would offer desegregation.

But they closed down, too, had to settle for PiedmontÂ’s white-bread education.

Oh, Keith Dixon, tell me, who will solve this mess?

Yes, Keith, please tell me, how will we survive this mess?

The Duluth School Board couldn’t fix it, and I don’t know about Don Ness.
