Governor Pawlenty sent the legislature 13 objections to the Omnibus Tax bill it offered him. One of them was his objection to Tom Bakk’s limitation on the Red Plan. Now it appears that the Minnesota Department of Education has been working against Duluth all along.
Pawlenty’s letter says that the Duluth School Board followed the law and should be allowed to proceed.
Two years ago Governor Pawlenty swaggered into Duluth and insisted that we had to have a referendum to approve the piddly little $33.5 million in sales taxes before he would approve the DECC Arena expansion the taxes would fund. The $407 million Red Plan will suck over ten times more than this out of the pockets of Duluth’s tax payers. Where the hell is his enthusiasm for the rights of taxpayers and voters now? Only one word truly sums up the Governor’s stand. Hypocrisy.
