I was wrong to upload the email in the last post. I was taken to task by its author and have just removed it. I have urged folks to send me email to facilitate a discussion. I’ll be more careful in the future should any others take up my offer. This is my apology to the emailer:
One again you are right to be angry with me. I was hasty. I did not mean to put you on display. I should have thought about those details which could have identified you.
Neither did I mean put words in your mouth. In fact I didn’t. I simply suggested how they might be taken. How they might be taken is important in this matter. Will we end up with two systems that attempt to cut each others throats to the other’s detriment? That is a real possibility.
The fact that you oppose charters lends more credence to the need for better alternatives for some children than the 709 children are evidently able to provide. You are acting against your own principles when they interfere with your child’s needs. No one should be surprised by that.
I do not oppose charters. I oppose vouchers when they are used to pull money from public schools to pay for private schools and weaken public education. That is a very different proposition and perhaps that is what you meant when you said you oppose charters. Charters are public schools however they come about.
I frequently publish emails that are sent to me. Once they are sent they become general not private property. Usually they do not contain identifying information other than a name which is easy to delete. This is not meant to excuse my sloppiness. There is no excuse. I do wish to have a serious conversation on my blog about this Central Sale. I’m putting the current School Board members in my spotlight . I’m sure they will mostly be unhappy about this but its what you get when you run for public office and win. That’s not true of non public officials like you.
You made points which I felt/feel were an important part of what should be a vigorous and wide ranging discussion. I know you did not make the statements I extrapolated from your email but they are serious issues in need of airing. The demand that we simply sell Central to Edison to pay off Red Plan’s financial legacy has many more ramifications than proponants of the sale are interested in discussing. I can’t avoid them. This really is about the health of two competing school systems.
