Books and putting off electioneering

I told my volunteer that I’m recovering from a week of mad work for my family. I’ve got a pile of tasks to attend to that have been shoved aside. I need a couple days to collect my thoughts and start campaigning again. I also need to keep from getting too nearsighted. To that end I’d like to report finishing Warmth of Other Suns a few days ago. My wife after hearing me read all its 540 plus pages recommended it to her book club. I’m about to add it to my reading list page on the old Snowbizz site.

In the meantime I bought two more books that jumped out at me when I was getting a campaign cell phone from my volunteer. The first is Eva Braun, Life with Hitler. Its about the fourth book on Adolph I’ve read. He’s sort of the dark shadow to me of Abraham Lincoln and I’ve wanted to make sense of him and his worshipers ever since I was a grade school kid pondering the life of Anne Frank. Good old Christian dualism – good and evil. It can’t be that simple.

The other book is about the Assassination of poor old James Garfield, “Destiny of the Republic.” It fits in well with all those other books I’ve acquired and read of ex-American Presidents and their times.

The campaign won’t be set aside for too long. I’m preparing to start up my latest campaign website. That should only take a couple of days and then eternal work until the November election, providing I survive September’s primary.
