I’ve been using the analogy of “a woman scorned” to describe the alienation of my affection with the GOP by the small tent folks like Ralph Reed and Karl Rove. They have all but killed off the moderates and their ideological lackeys have demonized moderates as a RINOs (Republicans in Name only). The News Tribune today quoted me using that phrase today in their belated coverage of the Eight District Congressional debate over Iraq. Here’s my little piece of the story:
“Unity Party candidate Harry Welty of Duluth takes both House candidates to task for their positions. He said Iraq should be partitioned into three autonomous regions to reflect the country’s major ethnic groups: Kurds, Shiites and Sunnis.
“That’s the way in good conscience we can leave that part of the world,” said Welty, a former Duluth School Board member who described himself as a “Republican who feels like a woman scorned.”
The White House needs to “get past the illusion that we can make one big happy family in Iraq,” Welty said. But he doesn’t advocate an immediate withdrawal as some Democrats propose.”
