This was the result of the “Minnesota Miracle” during which both Republicans and Democrats decided to put far more burden on income taxes to pay for local public schools and lower the burden on regressive local property taxes. Perhaps your tax bill has come in and you’ve noticed that this miracle’s angels have been falling from the sky.

Dec. 1, 1971The Duluth School Board yesterday voted for a property tax levy that reflects a drop of 26.8 percent from last year’s figure. The reduction is possible because of increased state school aid from a state tax increase approved by the Legislature.
