I don’t need to be told that virtually everyone I know thinks a 75-year-old has been school board member and never was hopeful for Congress doesn’t stand a chance in this his seventh hat toss for Congress. What I need to tell the ten people who in the next day might read this post is the following. That’s a damn shame. Why? I hope my crude picture above says all that needs to be said on that score.

You might ask why a post leaning in on my snow sculpting would start with a simple collage of a parade in the Kremlin for Vladimir Putin’s idol the long-dead mass murderer Joseph Stalin. Well for one thing the last sentences in the previous paragraphs spelled it out. America has the makings of our future Uncle Joe today and worse yet the party of KJB which allowed him to continue the worst abuses of the Tsars that his Bolshevists promised to abandon – except that as we see with Donald Trump a little success goes to the heads of some people, even Americans.

For another thing I want it understood from the start that I am now artist. Any fourth grader could paste a cut out from a photocopied photo of one of Trump’s Big Brother posters in DC and school glue it with Elmers onto a photo of a parade printed out from an easy Internet search. My Mother was the artist. Not me. I explained this long ago in the title of an eight-page How to pamphlet: My Mom Wanted Me to be an Artiste or The Clutz Handbook of Snow Sculpture:

So, not quite forty years since my daughter, Keely, asked me to make her a snow dinosaur I’m still photocopying pictures to paste on old photos. I do it because crude as it is it works. This particular image is not meant for the snow. Its meant to go with a column I might write with the same title as this post. My writing career which is extremely modest is more important to me and virtually unknown. Until a few weeks ago a quarter century of short columns never really had an editor. I recently discovered that AI might provide me with a little critical appraisal. It sure works well to catch missing commas.

Both writing and snow sculpting have provided me an outlet to stay sane as the Republican Party I joined fifty years ago out of sheer contrariness continues to ignore and depart from the genius of its humble founder Abraham Lincoln. Donald Trump??? The man who probably punched a teenager when showed her displeasure at providing him fellatio by biting him…our President? Really. I suspect its true. If you had watched this fifty-year creep of the Republican Party you had joined after Watergate when the depravity by a few kowtowers had made it terribly unpopular you might be sculpting snow and writing commentary to keep your sanity.

So, having established I have little artistic talent. Having established that I’m so contrary that I cannot give up trying to reestablish the ethics of Lincoln to a party of grifters and wannabe Stalin mimics. And admitting that I’ve lost 18 of the 21 political contests I’ve entered you are welcome to stop reading and wasting your time. I’m obviously deluded.

I have one other hobby of note. I like reading history books even the books nearing 1000 pages although I do so with trepidation. And I am two-hundred pages as I write this of finishing David McCullough’s Truman. He has just astonished America by winning a race that no one thought he could win on his own merits. The Presidency.

He gave Republicans Hell. They still need it. Even more they need it from a real Republican. In my case I got it from my grandfather who when I was about twelve told me: Never vote for a Democrat. I did it once and it was the worst mistake of my life. The point he explained was that Democrats no matter what they promise about staying out of wars was bunk and his worst mistake was voting for the Democrat Woodrow Wilson who promised to keep us out of Europe’s World War 1 which was their one tomfoolery…..Only he lied. He got us into the war.

I’ve thought about that long and hard for years. I came of draft age in the last of these wars, Vietnam, that could plausibly be blamed on Democrats – John Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson. But since I recruited myself to the GOP Nixon kept the Vietnam War humming through my senior year in Highschool to my graduation from college in 1973. Then there was George HW Bush and Iraq. Then there was George W Bush in Iraq. Then Donald Trump in Iran. 807

Well, I’ve just past 807 words. I need a chase to cut to.

Of the hundred or so ways to craft a book or in this case on going chapters to keep people interested uploaded to the Internet like chapters of books by Charles Dickens 185 years ago, I can picture one about my many but modest efforts at sculpting snow. There are many cute stories and more with bite. So, check out my websites if you want to follow my progress in snow, both sculpting and blowing. 897 words – If this is going to be my next Reader column it needs some serious editing.
