After tuning out on Labor Day I am about to recommence laboring…..over my unruly thoughts and my blog. I blame my Labor Day doldrums on the lovely folks who have earned God’s blessing with 37 successive Labor Day waffle picnics. The blessing is obvious because they do not recall a single rain out over their long history….although they skipped a couple of Covid years. As an outdoor under the garage grilling of hundreds of waffles is men’s work while the kitchen is full of women making batter the feminine heroine of this tradition makes up for being a good host by putting days into baking additional carbohydrates in the form of dessert breads of all manner. I had thought the entire neighborhood had chipped in but discovered it was all her pre-Labor day work. Have you heard of a dessert bread before pumpkin, zucchini, chocolate chip, date nut before? They and many more were there by the slices of watermelon to take pressure off of the five gentlemen manning the griddles. Long before the fete was at its peak I counted the moving targets and came up with 94 breakfasters not counting the kitchen trio. And yet after the plates are scraped and the watermelon rinds are pushed into a compost pail desperate attempts are made to bring more slices of bread to the diners. When that fails some of the extra is packed into bags for diners to carry home.

So when I got home after consuming two or three too many slices of bread I was more in a mood to nap than finish what seemed to be the final organizational task left to me for my recent week’s office organizing. Still two table tops worth of notices from a dozen Internet ap providers rest at my left waiting for me to figure out who we are buying services from to assuage Claudia’s fear that I am bankrupting our seniority.

I can say with confidence that my torpor is gone…..However it is a morning’s worth of post Labor day stories from the New York Times and Washington Post that has me eager to blog not tidy my business affairs. But while most of what the Honest Fake News Media has to report as opposed to the Dishonest Trump Media I will jump to my brother-in-laws contribution to my sanity. The Raging Grannies were recorded singing this variation on one of my favorite 60’s rock anthems: (I hope I can find a non Facebook source. Hold on I’m looking…) There are several but without subtitles lyrics. Have a listen:

This version from the “Native Media Network” goes on while the Facebook video is cut afterwords I didn’t listen to the rest because I’ve got more blogging to do but I’m quite likely to agree with everything else the grannies share.
