Last post I managed to do today’s news summary in only fifty posting minutes
Next post
There is something I’m comfortable using Chatgpt to offer to my posts. Summaries. My previous post was a long list of news stories at least two of which I read a couple days earlier. I’m comfortable adding take aways but full fledged summaries, NO! Yes, some news provokes me to write lengthy posts but there’s much more I want my readers to know about.
So, to demonstrate that a gpt summary was useful I tried to recapture the original reply Chatgpt gave me to the question “Summarize the news about china’s rapacious and ecologically damaging search for gold”. But I asked it to repeat my last question and it replied with a smiley emoji and told me I’d asked it was “what was the last question I asked you” Har, Har, Har! It then asked if I wanted the question before that. “before” I told it so it got back to business telling me:
The question you asked just before was: “Summarize the news about china’s rapacious and ecologically damaging search for gold”.
Then it gave me this second and much shorter summary to wit:
China’s search for gold has been described as rapacious and ecologically damaging. Mining operations often strip landscapes bare, destroy forests, contaminate rivers with toxic chemicals like cyanide and mercury, and displace communities. In countries where China invests heavily, such as in Africa and South America, critics say environmental safeguards are weak or ignored. The drive is fueled by China’s hunger for resources to secure economic and geopolitical power, but the cost is widespread environmental degradation and long-term harm to local populations and ecosystems.
The original summary was in bullet points and contained summaries of stories from the Congo, Indonesia and Brazil with credit given to various sources it consulted. Along with Trump’s thousands of minions making thousands of cuts in our Democracy under his watch, he’s prompted the world’s worst actors to unleash their worst to destroy Earth. You’d think the rich expect to take the Earth with them to heaven thus leaving little but hell for their children.
