Handing out 4 of 10,000 bookmarks on a lovely Sunday afternoon

I’ll make this short. I just sent an email to a young woman who emailed me a week ago asking me if I’d be willing to sit for an interview about my interesting life. Of course, being a shrinking violet and not the least self absorbed I said “sure.”

To my surprise when I opened the back door yesterday after noon a lovely young UMD journalist for the student paper “the Bark” (a nod to UMD’s bulldog mascot Champ) trooped in with three friends. They had just had brunch together after attending church.

They had all read one of my Reader columns recently and the three friends tagged along to see what sort of fellow called himself a “political bisexual.” I just read the column again. Actually I explain that I objected to being called this by a local Radio blathermouth. Brad Bennet called me “ACDC” years ago rather the way Donald Trump has turned trans folks into poster children in need of pink triangle armbands. (That’s a historical reference)

I just sent the journalist an email telling her I had such a good time with she and her friends I was still smiling. She said she enjoyed herself and she couldn’t wait to read the book I gave her and write a little character study of an interesting person. I gave all her friends one of the 10,000 bookmarks I mentioned in my upcoming story in the Reader about the East High meeting of Practicing Democracy.

Here’s the column that attracted everybody’s interest.
