The Grift that Keeps on Giving

Donald Trump has taken up space in my mind. Its a little like the movie Inside John Malkovich. I had a foretaste of it in 1992 when I predicted he was the future of the Republican Party. Certainly the party then was abandoning Lincoln Day Dinners honoring Lincoln and moving into Jeff Davis territory. I wasn’t very welcome to share my Liberal Republican parents heresies but that didn’t stop me from making clear what once constituted Republicanism and made me fight to keep it alive in the face of a withering Liberal contempt.

I turn out not to be the great historical writer who compiles a grand multi-volume history that will collect dust on library shelves for the ages. I write sort of punchy extended stories in the guise of parables or fables. Current events puts far more ideas in my head than I can write about and when I write I take the information I have gleaned from dusty histories and quick summaries easily available online especially from Wikipedia.

Here is the first list of possible subjects for blog posts or Duluth Reader Columns I jotted down before crawling out of bed this morning.

Email Subject line: The Grift that Keeps on Giving followed by:

Robert Caro History of LBJ
My ambition to understand America and find it dome dignity to restore itself after DJT makes takes us from the bright city on a hill to world pariah
Minn. Republicans reclaiming a shred if dignity by attacking a fellow senator accused of attempting to meet a teenager for sex.
North Dakota cult Jury that is killing an annoying org that is trying to save the Earth from the savvy lawyers who represent the Earth destroyers
Chester A. Arthur the most corrupt President until DJT

I am cursed with a small talent for writing short pithy critiques like the blind men examining an elephant

Here is the Second email Subject line: Death by a Thousand cuts… followed by:

…on an Ego the size of an empty Macy’s day balloon

Here is the third Subject line: ‘Incredibly inequitable’: Schools surrounding Minnesota’s cabin country homes struggle as taxes go to state

Which links to a news story about an old grievance of mine – rich people’s second houses in vacation land given Homestead tax breaks that screw local schools out of school taxes:

‘Incredibly inequitable’: Schools surrounding Minnesota’s cabin country homes struggle as taxes go to state

And the Fourth: Our choice we the people or DJT’s signature

This will take me five minutes as I mock up a possible sign for my front yard that appeals to me:

Additionally:

Four NY Times writers have an analysis of why a majority of Americans are cheering on Trump perhaps more because he has raised so many hackles from critics like the Vet’s I saw on a Tic Tok video marching to NY’s Fox News for not reporting the news of treating our Vets like dog food.

The reason is probably immigration and his goons blatant attempts to violate every norm of removal to clean out the country. Including sending innocent Venezuelans to El Salvador where gang members are treated like pigs in a factory.

or slaves on a slave ship.

Photo I took in Memphis at the Museum where Martin Luther King was assassinated when I was a Junior in High School.

All this convinces me that only by letting Trump turn America in a pariah state can the MAGA cult be stifled like that bucket of water on the Wicked Witch of the West.

And news like this is what it will take:
