Getting ready to campaign with a book

Long time readers know I have a penchant for talking about all the books I want to write and or take old columns and turn them into a book. I’m very close to doing that.

I imagined fifty page books and have a section of my office wall dedicated to the short issue related books I’d like to crank out. I changed tack a couple days ago after reading all the columns I wrote in 2002 when I became a columnist for the Reader. I decided that so many talk about the roots of issues we face today with the Republican party, abortion, Israel/ Palestine relations and some others of a more personal nature that would appeal to people who don’t trust politicians. So I’ve put them in order and I’m filling them out with pages to direct people to ways to defeat Pete Stauber or Linty Pete as I call him.

BTW I will not run against Jen Schultz who announced her candidacy yesterday. I will vote for her if Pete wins the GOP primary. If you look at my book cover you will see the photo that my brother took of me behind my lawnsign with the sticker I bought to advertise for Jen after I lost the primary.

BTW 2 You might ask how I possibly could campaign against her if I do defeat Pete. I won’t. I’ll campaign for myself. A moment ago I asked myself to jot down reasons to answer this question “How could an old 1 term Congressman whose Ideas are anathema to people who caucus Republican could possible the right Congressman for 2024” Over the next ten minutes I jotted down three pages on a legal pad of reasons.

Frankly I’ve laid out who I am what I believe in over 300 Reader columns over the years and I decided that to speed up my first book I’d simply take the columns for 2002 and add some color to additions to them. They take up 45 pages for 15,000 words and I think they will charm enough people that I can build on them. The book will be 60 to 70 pages long. I’m weighing getting an ISBN number but I may only treat issue one like a prototype to see if I catch some positive vibes.

Its late for me after two long days writing so I’ll wrap up her with two things to show you. First the cover as I have it now and then a list of the columns I’ll put in the book with the first lines from each one.

NOT EUDORA COLUMNS 2002
About this column title. I’m not related to Eudora Welty, the short story writer, and she didn’t care a whit about politics so this is definitely not Eudora.
