Above are two fuzzy images of items I have put by my office desk. One is a cartoon I asked a friend to draw of me for a college campaign to be our Vice President of the MSU Student Senate. I’m nothing if not consistent in my appreciation for political cartoons which I have attempted on occasion myself with no great success. My forte is snow.
The other is a note I scrawled today as I contemplate a very busy Summer and Fall. Its one of my principal characteristics. I don’t give up. Do not confuse this with mere stubbornness. That’s simply an unwillingness to concede defeat. Rather for me not giving up is an expression of dedication. I chose politics as a goal in college and fifty years later, although my successes have been modest, I’ve not given up on it. The same can be said for my dismal start to a teaching career. When I failed at that three times I ran for the School Board. Ten times. I mention that in the next column I’ve submitted for the Duluth Reader. I’m also now a substitute teacher in our sub depleted world of Covid schools.
By the way my, column is about my attendance at the weekend’s Republican District Convention for the first time in about twenty years. I’m dedicated to my vision of the Republican Party of my parents and I’m not giving up on it despite its current radical transformation.
Not giving up is one of my best qualities. Along side this is my open mindedness, My congeniality and my congeniality testing honesty. I will not sacrifice my beliefs just to get along with people. I think these qualities are just what the world has always needed and what the world needs now more than ever.
