I did it!

When the Tan Man accomplishes some magnificent challenge, like rolling down the hill in our front yard or filling an entire bucket with sand he will often exult, “I did it!” That’s pretty much how I feel as I work my way to midnight. Twelve PM was the drop dead date for me to raise $3,000 in donations no larger than $30.00 I found 29 such contributors and exceeded the $1300 I had to raise by about $200.00. I have to sit down and do an accounting to confirm this but it was kind of fun.

If I don’t win the primary this will be of little importance because it will be Roger Reinert who will be collecting the approximately $5,000 that DFL tax payers set aside for DFL legislative candidates. If I do win I’ll have a little additional grubstake and will actually be in a position to repay the grand I “loaned” myself to get started with a fundraising letter. I’m getting a little skittish about forking over money for no good purpose.

I ended my night by collecting another handfull of checks and ending up with a Manhattan in my hand at the lake property of a retired elected official. We talked over old times. Claudia was a little anxious because I was out till 10:30 longer than she had antiicpated I would be gone.

Tomorrow I’ll type all this information into the State’s finance file software. That should be fun.

It won’t be as fun as my morning visit to the Duluth News Tribune for my grilling prior to their endorsement of Roger Reinert.

You no, I was told that Roger only won two of his elections and had to be appointed to the council before becoming a full time politician. Now I don’t feel so bad.
