An organization intending to amend out Constitution to overturn the Supreme Court’s blind eye to corporate influence asked me if I would support an Amendment to limit dark money in our politics. The group calls themselves “We the People.” I assured them I would.
They asked how I would do this and I simply affirmed my agreement with them, to wit:
“Citizens United” has unleashed the forces of dark, untraceable money into our politics. This has been a Republican effort which derails the long standing work of Republican President Teddy Roosevelt to limit corporate spending in our elections. Equating spending and speech is not a construction found in the Constitution but a novel idea intended to advantage some politicians – those willing to do the bidding of their secret contributors. No contributor to any campaign has a right of anonymity. That is the seed bed of money-under-the-table corruption.
